maëry lanahan is a multidisciplinary artist based in Seattle whose practice investigates how memory, emotion, and perception are constructed and reshaped through abstraction. Working primarily in oil painting, she develops layered compositions that emphasize transparency, revision, and material sensitivity. By building surfaces through thin glazes and translucent veils
of color, lanahan creates visual structures that mirror the instability and accumulation of remembered experience.

Her paintings hover between figuration and abstraction, exploring how light, texture, and spatial ambiguity can express psychological and emotional states without reliance on narrative imagery. Through a process of addition and erasure, she examines the tension between clarity and obscurity, permanence and change, using the canvas as both mirror and sounding board for the
human condition.

Alongside her visual work, lanahan creates music under the moniker Tether the Star, a project that interweaves sound and image. Many of her painting series are in dialogue with her original songs, forming emotional diptychs that invite immersive reflection.
