The Artist

John Dempcy’s artistic practice is defined by process. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, his work reflects the rhythms, patterns, and structures found in nature. Music and science also play integral roles in shaping his creative vision.

John constructs his paintings by squeezing lines of paint directly from a bottle, which he then manipulates with a brush to define shapes, patterns, and movement. His focus on color and pattern, combined with the deliberate action of the brush stroke, creates a visual dialogue between intention and spontaneity. Layers of color resonate with unexpected harmonies, while the mark of each brush stroke captures the interplay between hand, material, and the artist’s intent.
