Sheryl Westergreen’s artwork is a journey through memory and place, translated onto the canvas through the process of abstraction. Each piece begins with observation and contemplation of a particular experience or environment. As she layers paint, the canvas evolves organically, revealing unique shapes, lines, and textures.
Her work invites viewers to experience memory through feeling and perception rather than direct representation. It is not only about what is seen, but what is sensed—a visceral connection to a moment in time that is both personal and universal. While firmly rooted in abstraction, her work is often grounded in deeply personal experiences. Drawing inspiration from poetry, travel, and emotional responses to life’s events, Westergreen develops a visual language shaped by these influences.
