ELISSA VOLAND
Elissa Voland’s artwork explores the dynamic challenge of resolving ever-changing elements into a cohesive whole, akin to solving a complex puzzle. Her approach to abstraction is rooted in its inherent sense of adventure, allowing each piece to define itself organically as it evolves.
Her series, titled Organic/Geometric, reflects the natural development of compositions from geometric shapes, emphasizing the individuality of each painting. The works are characterized by the interplay of themes that interact contrapuntally, where one theme may dominate a section while playing a subordinate role elsewhere.
Voland’s thematic explorations delve into contrasts such as congruity and incongruity, convergence and divergence, and connection and disconnection. These concepts are conveyed through a variety of artistic elements:
-
Planes that slope, extend, and intersect
-
Shapes that abut, combine, and superimpose
-
Lines that lead or mislead
-
Colors that highlight, minimize, and contrast
-
Textures that enlighten or obscure
Through these interactions, Voland’s paintings invite viewers to experience the dynamic relationships between form, space, and movement, celebrating the unique and unrepeatable nature of each creation.
